Fuscostagonosporaceae
Fuscostagonosporaceae Jayasiri, Camporesi & K.D. Hyde, in Hyde et al., Fungal Diversity 87: 34 (2017)
Index Fungorum number: IF 553867; Facesofungi number: FoF 03780
Etymology: Referring to the name of the type genus
Saprobic on dead twig. Sexual morph: Ascomata scattered, immersed, globose to subglobose. Ostiolar neck clypeate, central, short papillate, with periphyses. Peridium composed of pale brown, compressed cells. Pseudoparaphyses appearing trabecular, branched and anastomosed, associated with gelatinous material. Asci fissitunicate, cylindrical, with a long stipe. Ascospores narrowly fusiform, 1(–3)-septate, hyaline, with an entire sheath. Asexual morph: Conidiomata pycnidial, scattered, immersed, depressed globose, ostiolate. Conidiomatal wall composed of thin-walled cells. Conidiophores absent. Conidiogenous cells doliiform, annellidic. Conidia yellow to pale brown and 3-septate
Type: Fuscostagonospora Kaz. Tanaka & K. Hiray.
Notes: Fuscostagonosporaceae comprises the monophyletic genus Fuscostagonospora. In the phylogenetic analysis, Fuscostagonosporaceae species separate from other families of the suborder Massarineae (Hyde et al. 2017). Fuscostagonosporaceae forms a sister clade to Massarinaceae and Periconiaceae with moderate bootstrap support. This family is characterized by immersed, globose to subglobose ascomata, trabecular, branched pseudoparaphyses and narrowly fusiform, hyaline ascospores with a sheath (Hyde et al. 2017).
